CLEVELAND, December 2, 2015 – The cherished holiday tradition of visiting the House from A Christmas Story in Cleveland, Ohio, just got even more exciting. Starting today, the actual Red Ryder BB gun used by Ralphie Parker in the 1983 holiday classic “A Christmas Story” will be on permanent display. This legendary air rifle, which Ralphie famously dreamed of receiving, is now available for fans to see up close.

“This has been the holy grail for us—the actual BB gun used by Ralphie in the movie,” said Brian Jones, founder and owner of The House from A Christmas Story. “We have had a commemorative replica on display, along with many original props, costumes, and memorabilia from the film, but this is an item we’ve hoped to find for a long time.”

The museum acquired this priceless piece of cinematic history for $10,000 after being alerted by a fan about its availability on a film collectibles website. The previous owner, Gary Meck, who was the production asset manager for the film, confirmed its authenticity. According to Meck, six BB guns were custom-made by Daisy for the movie. After filming, one went to Peter Billingsley (Ralphie), one to the film archives, and the rest to Meck and other production team members.

Daisy had been producing the Red Ryder BB Gun since 1940, but the version seen in the movie was unique. It featured a compass and sundial in the stock, as described in Jean Shepherd’s story, though this combination never existed in production models.

“This original Red Ryder BB gun from the movie is a fantastic addition to our collection,” said Jones. “We are thrilled that fans will now be able to see the real thing for the first time.”

The House from A Christmas Story, located at 3159 West 11th Street in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, first opened its doors in 2006. Visitors can tour the meticulously restored Parker family home, interact with the exhibits, and even stay overnight in Ralphie and Randy’s room. The museum, situated across the street, displays original artifacts from the film. The expanded 3,500-square-foot gift shop offers a variety of memorabilia, including replicas of the Red Ryder BB gun.

The House from A Christmas Story attracts over 50,000 visitors annually from around the world, making it one of Cleveland’s top tourist destinations.

The House from A Christmas Story is located just five minutes from downtown Cleveland at 3159 W. 11th St. in the Tremont neighborhood. Open year-round, seven days a week (excluding major holidays), tours of the house run every hour. Admission is $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $13 for children.
