Tour admission includes entry to the House and Museum, available as either a guided or self-guided experience.
Please note that self-guided tours are only offered on select dates. Guided tours are available on all other dates.
Full refunds are available if requested at least three weeks before your reservation date. If you cancel within three weeks of your reservation, you will receive a 50% refund.
Missed tours or unredeemed tickets are eligible for a 50% refund if requested within 30 days of the tour date.
Please note that the following are not eligible for a refund:
- Cancellations or refund requests made more than 30 days after your reservation date
- Tickets that have already been redeemed
- Guests who leave a tour early
The service fee is non-refundable in all cases.
Yes, late check-out is available upon request, subject to availability.
Guests staying in the House from A Christmas Story must vacate the public areas of the house by 9:00 AM. The loft area remains accessible until 11:00 AM.
Late check-out beyond 11:00 AM may be accommodated if no reservation is booked for your room that evening. Please inquire with our team in advance to confirm availability.
Guests with later departures are also welcome to store their luggage with us until 5:00 PM, allowing additional time to explore the city before heading to the airport.
House from A Christmas Story
The loft is located on the third floor and requires climbing a total of 32 stairs, broken down as follows:
- 4 stairs to enter from outside
- 15 interior stairs with handrails leading from the entrance to the second floor kitchen area
- 13 interior stairs with a mid-landing and handrails leading from the kitchen to the third floor loft
Bumpus House
- The Hound Dog Haven Suite features ramp access at both the front porch and rear entrance.
- The Stolen Turkey Suite has 18 interior stairs to reach the second floor, with an additional spiral staircase continuing to the third floor.
Yes. The Hound Dog Haven Suite on the first floor of the Bumpus House is fully handicap accessible and features an accessible shower.
For guests visiting on a tour, the first floor of the House from A Christmas Story and the Gift Shop are wheelchair accessible. Please note that upper floors are only reachable by stairs. For the safety of all guests, our staff is unable to assist patrons up or down the staircase. Guests accompanying individuals who require assistance are welcome to provide that support at their own discretion; however, please be aware that guests assume all risk associated with stair access.
If you anticipate arriving after hours, please make arrangements prior to your arrival.
Our staff is not on-site after 5:00 PM and will be unable to check you in without prior coordination.

Check-in is between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM and takes place in our Gift Shop. Check-out is by 11:00 AM.

If you do smoke, please be courteous and dispose of all cigarette butts in the designated smoking receptacles provided.
Out of respect for all guests, pets of any kind are not permitted on the premises. As our spaces are shared by many visitors, we ask that this policy be observed to accommodate those with allergies or sensitivities to pet dander.
Guests who are overnight visitors and are found to have brought a pet that is not a registered service animal will be subject to a cleaning fee to address allergen and dander remediation.
Service animals are welcome.
Please be aware that under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), our staff may ask the following two questions upon arrival:
- Is the service animal required because of a disability?
- What specific work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
No additional documentation is required.
Yes. Â All accommodations have a microwave, mini refrigerator, and coffee maker.
Yes, televisions are available in all rental spaces. All TVs are equipped with a Blu-ray/DVD player and a selection of Christmas movies. WiFi is also available throughout all suites.
Specific TV locations are as follows:
- House from A Christmas Story (Loft) — Televisions are located in the kitchenette area, living room, and bedroom, all within the loft space.
- Bumpus House – Hound Dog Haven Suite — Televisions are located in the living room and bedroom.
- Bumpus House – Stolen Turkey Suite — A television is located in the living room.
Please note that in order to preserve the integrity of the touring areas within the House from A Christmas Story, we are unable to accommodate a television in those spaces. Guests who wish to watch a movie in the touring area are welcome to bring a personal laptop or device. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The House from A Christmas Story is rented exclusively as a single unit — guests have the entire house to themselves.
The Bumpus House features two separate suites, an upstairs and a downstairs.
Each suite may be rented independently, meaning another party could be staying in the adjoining suite simultaneously.
If you choose to rent both suites, an interior access door connects the two.
Please notify our staff at check-in if you would like the adjoining door unlocked.
The nightly rate is for your entire group.
Prior approval is required before any additional guests may visit the property. If you wish to have visitors during your stay, please reach out to us in advance at support@housefromachristmasstory.com so that we may consider your request.
Please note that additional guests are not permitted to spend the night under any circumstances.
No. Children under the age of 4 do not count toward the occupancy limit.
A Pack ‘n Play is available upon request for infants and toddlers, and crib sheets are provided.
If you would like the Pack ‘n Play prepared for your stay, please leave a note on your reservation or notify a staff member at check-in.
For guests staying in the House from A Christmas Story, admission to the public tour is provided for the number of quests staying overnight up to the occupancy limit.  For guests staying in The Bumpus House admission is NOT included.
Each property has a designated maximum occupancy, outlined below:
- House from A Christmas Story — Maximum occupancy of 6 guests. Sleeping arrangements include one queen bed, one queen sleeper sofa, and two twin beds.
- Bumpus House – Hound Dog Haven Suite — Maximum occupancy of 4 guests. Sleeping arrangements include one queen bed and a daybed with a pull-out trundle.
- Bumpus House – Stolen Turkey Suite — Maximum occupancy of 6 guests. Sleeping arrangements include two queen beds on the second floor and two twin beds on the third floor.
A Pack ‘n Play is available upon request for infants and toddlers.
Please note for House from A Christmas Story guests: The two twin beds are located in The Boys Room, which is part of the touring portion of the house. If you plan to use these beds, please notify a staff member at check-in or leave a note on your reservation. The beds will be prepared for sleeping by 5:30 PM, at which time the security cover in the bedroom will also be closed.
No additional guests are permitted on the property at any time without prior approval. Sleeping bags, air mattresses, and cots are not permitted in any of the rooms.
There is no minimum stay requirement, with the exception of holiday closure dates, which require a two-night minimum.
When booking on a holiday closure date, the two-night minimum is automatically applied during the reservation process.
Guests who rent during a holiday closure will have full use of the entire House from A Christmas Story throughout the day.
If you believe you have left an item at the property, please contact us as soon as possible. Guests are responsible for all shipping and handling charges associated with the return of lost or forgotten items.
Please note that a $10 processing fee will also apply, as outlined in our Terms and Conditions.
Yes. All three properties include a kitchenette equipped with the following:
- Keurig coffee maker
- Microwave
- Mini fridge with a small freezer
- Basic kitchenware, including plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and silverware
Extended holiday hours begin after Thanksgiving and continue through December 31st each year. Hours vary by date, so please check the calendar on our Visit page or follow our social media channels for the most up-to-date schedule.
We offer a 10% discount on Gift Shop purchases with a valid ID. This excludes admission tickets and overnight stays.
Yes. Security cameras are in use both inside and outside of the House from A Christmas Story and the Bumpus House.
Interior cameras within the House from A Christmas Story are limited to areas used during daily public tours.
The Bumpus House is monitored by exterior cameras only.
Parking is available in several locations on and near the property:
- A parking lot situated between the Bumpus House and the House from A Christmas Story includes one reserved space per rental unit.
- Additional parking is available in a small lot located between the Gift Shop and the Museum, in front of the garages.
- Public street parking is accessible along both sides of the street. (W. 11th, Rowley Ave, and Buhrer Ave)
Guests arriving by RV, camper, or bus — including group tours — are kindly asked to utilize street parking only, as on-site accommodations for larger vehicles are not available.
No. The basement is reserved for storage purposes and is not accessible to guests.
No. Grilling is not permitted.
No. Open flames of any kind are not permitted on the premises.
