The House from A Christmas Story House to Unveil Memorial Bench Honoring Director Bob Clark
CLEVELAND – November 29, 2014 – The House from A Christmas Story is proud to announce the unveiling of a memorial bench in honor of the late Bob Clark, the beloved director of the classic holiday film “A Christmas Story.” Bob Clark’s Cameo Bench will be placed at the exact location where he made his memorable cameo appearance as Swede, the jovial neighbor who teases Old Man Parker about his “Major Award” leg lamp.
Bob Clark had a distinguished career in film and television, directing notable works such as “Black Christmas” (1974) and the coming-of-age comedy “Porky’s” (1982). His direction of “A Christmas Story,” an adaptation of Jean Shepherd’s nostalgic memoir, earned him two Genie Awards. In 2012, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance.
Tragically, on April 4, 2007, Bob Clark and his son Ariel lost their lives in a head-on collision in Los Angeles, CA, caused by an intoxicated driver. This memorial bench serves as a tribute to Clark’s legacy and the joy he brought to countless fans through his work.
Every year The House from A Christmas Story attracts over 50,000 visitors from around the globe, all united by their love for the film. Friends of Bob Clark and the museum wish to honor his memory with this bench, expressing gratitude for his contributions and the indelible mark he left on the Cleveland community of Tremont by choosing the green and gold house on West 11th Street as the film’s iconic location.
The dedication ceremony for Bob Clark’s Cameo Bench will take place on Saturday, November 29th at 10:00 a.m. at The House from A Christmas Story, located at 3159 West 11th Street in Cleveland. Media outlets and the general public are warmly invited to attend and witness the unveiling of this heartfelt tribute.
