CLEVELAND –October 8, 2018 –A Christmas Story House & Museum has opened its newest attraction The Bumpus House for overnight stays! Reservations are now being taken at AChristmasStoryHouse.com/stay.
The Bumpus House is located at 3153 W. 11th Street, just to the left of Ralphie Parker’s family home. Known to fans of A Christmas Story as the fictional residence of Ralphie’s hillbilly neighbors the Bumpuses and their 785 smelly hound dogs. The Bumpus Hounds are famous for harassing Ralphie’s Old Man and stealing the Christmas turkey.
The Bumpus House will include two accommodations: The “Hound Dog Haven” suite on the first floor will sleep up to four guests and the “Stolen Turkey” suite, which encompasses the second and third floors, will sleep up to six guests. Guests can also rent the entire house. A first-floor dual access door allows for the whole house to be rented. Rates start at $195 per night. Admission to A Christmas Story House & Museum is included with each rental. The first-floor suite is handicap accessible with ramp access and accessible features inside. The motif for the interior of The Bumpus House is vintage eclectic in a 1940’s style with a slightly hillbilly Bumpus flare while still providing all the modern amenities.
Overnight rentals of A Christmas Story House began in June 2017 and have proven to be very popular with both out of town and local guests. “With the coming addition of The Bumpus House we are excited to be able to offer our visitors additional lodging options,” said Brian Jones, A Christmas Story House & Museum’s owner. “Spending the night at A Christmas Story House is almost 100% booked for the season, so if you want that special A Christmas Story House you want to book your night at the Bumpus House now.”
The “Bumpus House” was previously owned by Joyce Seagro until her passing in October, 2016. Joyce lived in the residence during the filming of A Christmas Story and its sequel My Summer Story, the latter actually featuring the house as the home of the Bumpus family.
While the most exciting addition, The Bumpus House is not the only addition to A Christmas Story House & Museum. For many years the yard of The Bumpus House functioned as a de facto parking lot for visitors to the popular tourist destination. After several years of planning, a new official free parking lot for visitors has been installed, with space for 17 cars, one of which is designated handicapped.
“With A Christmas Story House being in a residential neighborhood parking had long been an issue we wanted to find a solution for,” said Jones. “With the addition of this new lot and the six existing spaces available across the street we now have a total of twenty-three spots available for off the street parking.”
